Start with the surfaces
List walls, ceilings, trim, doors and closets separately. Include approximate dimensions and photos. Tell each contractor which rooms will remain occupied and what furniture needs protection.
Ask what preparation includes
A quote should explain cleaning, patching, sanding, priming and protection. Record which repairs are included and how extra work will be approved. A low price with unspecified preparation may describe a different job.
Compare the complete finish
Ask for the proposed coating, sheen and number of coats, along with exclusions, access arrangements and clean-up. Confirm scheduling, insurance and references directly with the business before accepting.
