Keep the finish record, not just the colour name.

Keep coating, colour, room and care notes together so the next painting conversation starts with useful information.

Record the complete finish

A colour name is only part of the record. Keep the product line, colour reference, sheen and the surface or room where it was used. Save the contractor’s written scope and any product information supplied at handover. Do not assume that two products with similar names will produce an identical result.

Separate work completed from future notes

Record the completion date and which surfaces were included. Keep any outstanding touch-ups or recommended follow-up distinct from work already accepted. A clear list is easier to use than an undated photograph of a tin or a message saying that everything was painted.

Keep care instructions with the coating details

Retain the instructions provided for the actual finish and ask the responsible contractor about anything that is unclear. Handling, cleaning and future maintenance depend on the product and application. A general planning article does not replace that product-specific guidance.

Make the next enquiry easier

When a future repair or repaint is being assessed, share the relevant finish record and describe what has changed. Keep customer information and private paperwork out of any public project story. A useful record supports the conversation; it does not guarantee that a new touch-up will match an aged or weathered surface.
